Compare and contrast living at home and in the dormitory. (I)

I remembered that I had left in the dormitory when I studied at Ming-Chi Technology University. This college life made me so impressed, and it also let me form some good habits, such as going to bed and getting up early, previewing lessons before the class and reviewing lessons after class, being more easygoing than before.

I think there are some different factors between living at home and in the dormitory. First of all, living in the dormitory can be more easily to ask teachers questions. This is because most teachers live in the dormitory, and you can ask them for the helping whenever you have the spare time. However, this situation can not happened in living at home, because you will not come to school for only one reason. Second, living in the dormitory is more convenient than living at home, due to the classrooms are near the dormitory, you do not have to spend times in communing. You can save a lot of times and use it to study. If you live at home, you have to deal with this problem. I think it is really a big trouble for those living at home’s students. Third, you can make so many different kinds friends in the dormitory. Not like living at home; you always look alone, and look like a stranger to every classmates.

In conclusion, I think everyone should figure out that living in the dormitory in college life, because you can learn a lot of things, habits, and experience that you do not learn in living at home. Maybe there are some advantages that I do not know in living at home, but I would love to choose living in the dormitory.

Why did you choose your major? (Final)

I chose to become a mechanical engineering(ME) major because I was luckily admitted to Ming-Chi Technology University by college entrance exams, though I was not doing well in the senior high school entrance exam. Still, I am wondering why my exam scores were far poorer than the mock tests.

For the first reason why I chose to enter Ming-Chi, because my liberal arts was a little poor in junior high, I thought I would be in trouble if I entered senior high school to face deeper and more difficult liberal arts. But in ME field, liberal arts are not a necessary subjects. By the way, I like to study maths in my spare time, so I am good at it. Math is also the most important tool in ME. I thought it would make it easier for me to start my learning journey of ME. The second reason was that my family and relatives encouraged me to study ME in Ming-Chi and aimed at National Taiwan University of Science and Technology(NTUST). They thought ME was very popular and developing, and NTUST is famous in ME area. In fact, I was not sure if I did have interest in it at that time, but I would like to try it.

At first, I did not like my major; however, later I had grown fond of it, because of the following reasons. First, I had found some subjects to become more and more interesting to me, such as Dynamics, Manufactures, and Materials. Second, from the course, “Factory Practice”, I have learned about the difference between theory in the text books and practice in real life. For example, I have come to know that it is not easy to mange a factory. Third, my uncles would usually tell me something about how to make a new product manufactured by machine and my teachers have also taught me about the importance of manufacturing techniques. That is why I have got more and more interest in my major courses.

Now, as I enjoy my major more than ever, I am convinced of my right choice. As an old saying goes, “One may distinguish himself in any trade", I think as long as one tries his best to do what he has chosen to do, he will overcome all the problems or obstacles to finally achieve his study goal.
