The Effects of an Invention or Innovation in Modern Life. (Final)

Much has been done to improve the traffic in big cities. Take Taipei for instance. Over the years, the city has introduced several measures to deal with this problem. Perhaps the most important factor was the opening of Taipei's Mass Rapid Transit (MRT). By offering convenience and comfort to the people of this city, it has induced a lot of drivers to start using it.

Taipei's Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) is a big hit with people living here. In the past, residents had fewer choices in getting around the city. They could only drive a car or motorcycle or simply walk. Since the MRT began operating, however, people are finding that it is the most convenient mode of transportation. Simply put, the MRT runs underground and therefore never gets stuck in traffic. The MRT runs so smoothly that it can actually reduce commuting time by more than fifty percent. Around the same time, the city built "bus only" lanes along several of the main streets and avenues. Only buses can drive on these lanes, thus helping them to move more quickly through traffic.

With this improvement, a lot of people have been encouraged to take the MRT and the bus instead of a car or a motorcycle, once again helping to alleviate some of the city's traffic headaches. Another reason why workers and students favor the MRT is that they never have to worry about parking. In a crowded city like Taipei, this can be a big problem. Finding a place to park your car or motorcycle can often take a lot of time or cost money. Finally, for those who are worried about the environment, the MRT is helping to cut down the pollution in the city.

We can see that there are so many cars and motorcycles at every street during rush hour. It makes the traffic look like very chaos and I think that it is really a big problem to the cops who direct traffic and enforce laws. However, more MRT lines are opening in the future and I believe that the problem can be solved easily by MRT systems. Therefore, we can definitely say that MRT will continue to grow in popularity.

Buses, on the other hand, must continually negotiate congested traffic. The MRT runs so smoothly that it can actually reduce commuting time by more than fifty percent. Compare and contrast living at home and in the dormitory. (Final)

I had lived in the dormitory when I studied at Ming-Chi Technology University. This college life made me so impressed, and it also let me form some good habits, such as going to bed and getting up early, previewing lessons before the class and reviewing lessons after class, being more easygoing than before.

I think there are some different factors between living at home and in the dormitory. First of all, living in the dormitory make it easier to ask teachers questions. This is because most teachers live in the dormitory, and you can ask them for help whenever you have the spare time. However, this situation can not happen at home, because you will not come to school for just one reason. Second, living in the dormitory is more convenient than living at home, due to the classrooms are near the dormitory, you do not have to spend time in communing. You can save a lot of time and use it to study. If you live at home, you have to deal with this problem. I think it is really a big trouble for those students who are living at home and their homes are far away from the school. Third, you can make so many different kinds of friends in the dormitory. Living at home, you always look alone, and look like a stranger to every classmate.

Now I go to National Taiwan University of Science and Technology (NTUST), most of my classmates live in the dormitory told me that I am very lucky to live at home. I think that there are some advantages living at home. First, you do not have to worry about whether the food is clean or not, and you can taste fresh fruits everyday. Second, you do have your privacy. If you live in the dormitory, you can not do anything that you want to do. For example, if you go to somewhere to do something, there are always persons who will ask you where you will go to? This is really not convenient. Third, I think that you can sleep very well. This is because some of your roommates may have the bad habits such as listening to music or making some uncomfortable noises when you are sleeping. However, if you live at home, you will not face these problems. There is no good or bad for living at home and in the dormitory; I think most people would love to try to change their invariable life styles. After experiencing many kinds of life styles, you will find the a way that fit you most.

In conclusion, I think everyone should figure out a way of living in the dormitory in college life, because you can learn a lot of things, habits, and experiences that you do not learn in living at home. Maybe there are some more advantages that I do not know about living at home, but based on the above comparison, I would love to choose living in the dormitory.
